Swirskii-Mite PLUS Sachets (Amblyseius swirskii) — Predatory Mite for Thrips, Whiteflies & Pest Mites
Swirskii-Mite PLUS sachets contain Amblyseius swirskii, a proven predatory mite for controlling thrips, whiteflies, and pest mites. PLUS sachets are designed for long-term, preventative coverage in stable indoor environments where humidity and temperature remain consistent. Unlike Ulti-Mite sachets that tolerate dry or high-RH conditions, PLUS sachets should only be used in controlled environments. Swirskii-Mite PLUS is chemical-free, IPM-compatible, and safe for use in greenhouses, propagation zones, and other enclosed set-ups with reliable climate control.Use For
Swirskii-Mite PLUS sachets release predatory mites that feed on:
• Thrips larvae — including Frankliniella occidentalis, Thrips tabaci
• Whitefly eggs and larvae — including Trialeurodes vaporariorum, Bemisia tabaci
• Broad mites (Polyphagotarsonemus latus)
• Russet mites (Aculops lycopersici)
• Two-spotted spider mites (Tetranychus urticae) — For dedicated spider mite control, Spical or Spidex are more aggressive spider mite predators
Swirskii does not feed on adult thrips or whiteflies. Control is achieved by reducing reproduction and early-stage survival. When to Use Swirskii-Mite PLUS Sachets
Use wherever thrips, whiteflies, or pest mites are expected or present in stable indoor environments.
Recommended for:
• Preventative coverage to stop thrips, whiteflies, and pest mites before establishment
• Early-stage pest presence
• Hotspots requiring sustained biological control over 4–6 weeks
• Plants with dense foliage or layered canopy structures where pests hide in leaf folds and undersides
• IPM programs seeking long-term prevention & control
Curative Note:
Pair sachets with Swirskii-Mite bulk bottles, and/or Thripor for curative control. In the case of an active problem, sachets work in tandem with bottle formulations to provide long-lasting clean up and prevention against population resurgence. For tall plants or vertical hangers, place sachets above and below the hotspot, apply bottles close to or directly at the problem. This dual strategy prevents pest spread and accelerates control. How It Works
Mode of Action: Mites pierce and consume pest eggs and larvae using their mouthparts
Behavior: Mites reproduce inside the sachet and disperse gradually over 4–6 weeks, sachets produce multiple consecutive generations of predatory mites
Visual Effect: Pest populations decline as mites establish and feed
Release Duration: 4–6 weeks depending on humidity and conditions
Sachet Type: PLUS paper-based sachet; best in stable environments
Feeding Rates:
Nymphs and adults feed on thrips larvae, whitefly eggs and larvae, broad mites, russet mites, and two-spotted spider mites (early stages only)
Nymphs and adults consume 5–10 pest eggs or larvae per day under optimal conditions
Feeding life stages last approximately 20 daysLifecycle of Amblyseius swirskii
Egg Stage
• Laid on leaf surfaces
• Hatch in 2–3 days under optimal conditions
Larval Stage
• Non-feeding
• Lasts 1–2 days
Nymph Stage
• Begins feeding on pest eggs and larvae
• Highly mobile and effective in early suppression
Adult Stage
• Actively hunts and consumes prey
• Lifespan ~20 days
• Capable of laying 2–3 eggs per day under optimal conditions
Diapause Behavior
Swirskii does not enter diapause in response to short day-lengths or low temperatures. This allows for use late into fall.Release Rates & Placement
Pressure Level Rate per Plant Repeat Interval Preventative 1 sachet Every 4–6 weeks Curative 1–2 sachets (paired with bottles) Every 3 weeks Placement Tips:
• Hang sachets in sheltered spots, away from direct sun or heat
• Hold by cardboard strip to avoid damage
• Do not open sachets—exit hole is pre-made
• Open shipping box in crop and tear sachets along perforations
• For vertical crops/tall plants, place sachets above and below pest hotspots
Best Working Conditions
Temperature: Active from 59°F to 97°F; optimal range 68–90°F
Reproduction Peak: Fastest at 86°F
Humidity: Optimal at 63% RH or higher
Compatibility Guidance
• Avoid broad-spectrum pesticides before and after release
• Allow residues from oils or soaps to dry before application
• Compatible with Orius spp. and whitefly parasitoids
• Do not combine with other generalist predatory mites (Neoseiulus cucumeris, Amblydromalus limonicus, Transeius montdorensis, Amblyseius andersoni)
• May feed on eggs of other Type III mites and Aphidoletes aphidimyza—plan accordingly

Swirskii-Mite PLUS sachets support sustainable growing practices by replacing chemical sprays with natural predators. While not compostable like Ulti-Mite sachets, PLUS sachets still reduce pesticide runoff, protect pollinators, and maintain ecological balance across growing environments. What to Expect
• Swirskii-Mite PLUS sachets release predators consistently after placement
• Thrips, whiteflies, and pest mites are suppressed as predators feed
• Predators disperse through foliage for 4–6 weeks
• Reapply based on scouting observations to maintain control and prevent resurgenceRecommended IPM Pairings
• Horiver Yellow sticky traps for flying pest monitoring
• Limonica or Orius spp. for layered thrips control
• Isarid Mycoinsecticide for knockdown in high-pressure zones
• Knowing and Recognizing book for pest ID and scouting reference
• Swirskii-Mite bulk bottles for curative coverage and hotspot targeting
FAQsDo Swirskii-Mite Ulti-Mite contain adult mites?
Yes—sachets contain a mix of life stages, including adults, juveniles and eggs.Is Swirskii-Mite safe for indoor plants?
Yes—completely safe for people, pets, and plants, making it ideal for use in enclosed environments like homes, offices, herb gardens and interiorscapes. How soon will I see results?
Feeding begins immediately after release. In warm, humid conditions, suppression accelerates rapidly—visible pest reduction often begins within 2–3 days. Mites actively hunt and consume pest eggs and larvae, targeting hotspots with high efficiency. For best results, apply during early signs of pressure and monitor pest decline through scouting or sticky traps. Can I use this on tomatoes?
Swirskii is not recommended for tomato crops. Tomatoes have natural resistances to certain predators, making it difficult for Swirskii to maneuver and hunt on the plant. There is no harm to using Swirskii in any set-up, however Swirskii’s performance in tomatoes is subject to the specific species of tomato and its maturity. For tomatoes we recommend using Thripex sachets to control thrips and Spidex to control spider mites. These predators can navigate mature tomato plants. What is the difference between Plus and Ulti-Mite Sachets?
Ulti-Mite sachets are made from compostable film and tolerate humidity and temperature fluctuations. PLUS sachets are made from paper and should only be used in stable environments. Ulti-Mite is the preferred choice in most scenarios.Questions about Swirski-Mite PLUS Sachets?
