Revising Shaping Fire

Jul 05, 2025

While scrolling on Instagram the other day we noticed an eye-catching post from February 14 by an old friend, Shango Los @shapingfire. It’s a close-up of some cannabis buds and the colors are trippy—like a candy shop at a carnival by a beach at sunset. The plant is Forbidden Fruit x Purple Hindu Kush harvested from Shaping Fire’s Sea of Green trial.

Shango covers an interesting topic in his latest YouTube video, Shaping Fire EP121 - The Wooly Umbrella: A New Source of Cannabinoids with guest Paula Berman PhD. While the US continues to struggle in its relationship to cannabis medicine, it would be helpful if non-THC cannabinoids could be obtained from more plants than simply cannabis. In this episode, Shango chats with cutting-edge plant biochemist, Dr. Paula Berman, about the wooly umbrella plant (Helichrysum umbraculigerum), its rare biochemical attributes, successful extraction methods, and the future of non-cannabis cannabinoids from this species.

If you’re on the road you can tune into the audio podcast, or listen to another insightful episode. Number 120 is Cannabis and Energy: A Growing Dilemma with Evan Mills PhD, discussing how now is the time for cultivators to discover energy efficient solutions to growing cannabis. Episode 119 is Homegrown Greenhouses with guest Eric Brandstad. Shango and greenhouse consultant Eric explore small greenhouses for homegrowers and patients, managing airflow, heat and cold, and how to trick greenhouses out for optimal yield and convenience.
