Species: Muscidifurax raptorellus
As part of its natural behaviour, the mini-wasp lays its eggs inside the fly pupa. When the eggs hatch, they
feed on the fly developing inside the pupa. These new mini-wasps grow into adults and emerge from the pupa
to restart the biological control process. This solution involves no chemicals, and does not harm human health
or the environment. The mini-wasps are present but unnoticeable on site. They are only a few millimetres long
and do not attack or annoy humans or animals.
Mode of action
Use for: House fly (Musca domestica), biting stable flies (Stomoxys spp.), lesser house fly (Fannia canicularis) and other Fannia spp. When the adult parasitic wasps emerge from the pupal shells, they will start searching for fly pupae to parasitize. After parasitism, wasps of the new generation can be expected in approximately 2-3 weeks.
Application
- Distribute the material in heaps near to the places where the flies pupate and cover with 5-10 cm of straw
- Make sure the material is distributed on dry places or on dry(er) manure
- Place close to stable walls or edges, or in furrows
- Start introduction as soon as flies can be expected
