Keeping it real as always, the Koppert tech specialists clarify how to store biocontrols (not in the fridge!) and discuss average daily temperature, biodegradable sachets, release scheduling, and diurnal vs nocturnal. They go over the essentials of how to apply microbial biocontrols with sprays and drenches, and Koppert distribution tools, like the Mini Airbug.
Kristen and Heidi explore the benefits of biocontrols vs pesticides, discussing the reentry interval (REI) for pesticides, the need for personal protective equipment (PPE), and pesticide impact on human health. They discuss a subject on every plant person’s mind these days—supporting pollinators—and encourage taking a proactive approach to pest management.
A houseplant and cut flower expert, Kristen has been in the industry since graduation in 2005, rising from assistant-to-propagator to head grower of vegetative and seeded material at multiple propagation facilities. She landed as propagator and senior grower at Longwood Gardens before joining Koppert. As part of the Koppert team Kristen has worked with a number of regional Pennsylvania and New Jersey growers to develop individualized integrated pest management (IPM) solutions for their crops.
Heidi Doering has worked with Koppert for the past decade and is one of the most well-informed plant experts of the day regarding ornamental IPM. Her broad range of experience includes greenhouse production, university extension, sales, and technical product management. She earned her masters in horticulture at Penn State. Heidi’s experience in production, sales, and product fuels her passion for mentoring growers from conventional through biological controls.
Host Bailey Hale is a Vermont farmer who offers starter liners to cut flower farms. He is an advocate for the local cut flower farming movement, and introduced Natural Enemies to his community as a trusted source of biological pest controls.
